The dreamiest nursery that is peaceful and soothing but also playful with pops of color (kids room should be FUN!) When in doubt- use books as decor, don't be afraid to pick color with throw blankets and pillows, and add personal touches where you can! You can purchase ready-made curtains at any retail store, and then add pom pom or tassel trim to the edges for that custom (playful) look!

We always encourage utilizing table lamps in less-than-expected places. In the evening this dining room credenza gets light by the lamp, and a warm candle’s glow which really does set the perfect mood (when overhead light can be a buzzkill).

Something we love to play with when styling is add

Something we love to play with when styling is adding personal touches everywhere you look. The more the client (and their guests) are in the space, the more they notice. It’s so fun for us to use what the client already has, incorporate their family photos, and elevate them with new pieces as well. Obviously we wouldn’t realistically keep a bottle of champagne the nursery but we wanted our clients to have something to celebrate! Notice how the canopy just melts into the fabric of the rocking chair, with bounces off a fun pop of color with with the ottoman. Contrasting, an otherwise unremarkable green nightstand becomes the cutest little statement piece in an all pink girl’s room! The French butterfly artwork also plays well with the rug, and we brought texture in the form of the lampshade and storage baskets. We put thought into every single minuscule detail to create an overall beautiful design.

Did you know both the chair and the lamp were thrifted? We love mixing old and new, so no two designs can be replicated. Pro tip- replace the hardware on ready-made retail pieces. In this case we used round polished brass ball knobs. It’s a little way to make a big impact. And the next time you’re shopping curtains- check out Etsy! There’s tons of semi-custom or custom curtain options that are about the same price as Pottery Barn (or less) with waaaay more flair!

Do you want to know one of the easiest ways to make your bed? Four KING sized pillows, you can mix up the pillow covers that go on them, two 24x24 decorative pillows, and a lumbar pillow. You can even ditch the lumbar if you want to. We recommend buying TWO duvet inserts stacked together and placing them in the duvet to the ultimate cozy plush hotel worthy thickness. One of the vendors that we met with is able to fully customize any piece of furniture you want- sofa, sectional, chair with over 850 fabric options. That RH sectional that everyone is obsessed with? We can have it custom made with better quality wood, the exact fabric you want, and it’ll last 3x as long as the RH one would, and that’s even with a better price tag! Adding whimsical, personal touches to the nursery is our absolute favorite! There are SO many ways to design a child’s room while also being budget conscious, but what really sets the nursery apart is all the little details!
In this gender neutral nursery we added tassel trim to the curtains, artwork curated over the years, stenciled cranes, a handmade mobile, and vintage armoire.

When you’re designing your bedroom, try to incorporate a piece of furniture outside of the basics (bed, nightstands, dresser). Adding a component like an accent chair, bookshelves, or a bench elevates the space by breaking up the space into different zones. Plus, we all know that the bedroom chair is specifically for clothes that “aren’t quite dirty yet” 😉

Are you down with ~funky~? Ariel and I have talked a lot about who we are, what we want to create, and who our dream client is. The answer is, we want to work with individuals and families who aren’t afraid to let their style run free. We LOVE a maximalist approach to design, we adore utilizing client’s existing artwork, and we really shine with pattern play, wallpaper, tonal rooms, and anything out of the box. 2024 is about embracing the oddities, and designing YOUR dream space- not the cookie cutter ones you see on Pinterest.

This dining room in Coronado was genuinely SO much fun to create because our clients were open to just about anything, and no look was too bold. Also, if you haven’t heard- it’s a total myth that you shouldn’t paint a small room a dark color.

Pattern play! When you pick a bold patterned wallpaper, keep the scale and pattern of the rug a little more toned down so they don't complete with each other too much. For this nursery we used Chasing Paper's Peonies wallpaper, and paired it with a jute rug with a minimal outlined pattern. We still went bold with the color of the curtains (patternless, but textured velvet), and the vintage hunter green antique dresser.

Do you know what to know what the eye sees in this photo? The stunning blue dresser, gold hardware, and styling items incorporated. You know what your eye does NOT focus on? THE CARPET! But- if the carpet (or any flooring) was terrible, it would be the FIRST thing your eye was drawn to. Before committing to a full service interior design project, either on your own, or with a professional- PLEASE consider your floors and your walls. The base for any space is SO important, and if you really can't stand the way they look, then please consider spending your money there FIRST. Your furnishings are only as good as the space they occupy!
