Wilshire Kitchen Remodel

Willo Historic District is known for it’s charming collection of 1920s and 30s homes. Historic homes are some of our favorite properties to design for – there is a time to progress and a time to preserve to make these beautiful charmers work for modern families. Unfortunately for this home, all original aspects of the kitchen had been “updated” in the 90s and the only element still in tact was the wide galley style kitchen layout. The homeowner was looking to honor the original charm and style of the home while incorporating her European heritage and her and her husband’s love for French Provencial style. Maximizing every corner of the room was impertive and we achieved that with fully custom cabinetry including an L-shaped banquette bench for guests to enjoy cocktails, an oversized pantry unit, and extending the height of the upper cabinets from the ceiling to 18″ above the lowers. A three inch marble countertop, beveled marble subway tile, and grey and white marble harlequin floors elevate the room while maintaining the natural materials that could have been used when the home was built. Cafe appliances including a 48″ stove and beverage fridge bring the room to modern day. The tile mural above the range is a custom handpainted piece that we had commissioned from in Norway and it beautifully personalizes the kitchen for the homeowners. Styled with the clients own collection of antiques and floral arrangements that help add dimension, color, and a sophistated cottage feel, the effect is utterly charming.
